Cost-Saving Services From The Gas Co

Gas is the most expensive utility. This is why the gas company offers some useful services. Keep in mind that you cannot make a request for these services if your landlord pays for gas or if the landlord bills you for gas (in place of the gas company).  The Gas Bills must be in your name.

Free Services:

  • Free turn-ons and turn-offs of natural gas service at your request

  • Adjustment of air/gas flow to burners on your gas appliances

  • Safety check of gas piping and gas appliances before your gas service is connected

  • Consultation on conservation measures that you can take to help reduce your gas usage bill

  • Will respond if you smell natural gas

  • Meter and service line inspections to insure your safety

  • Location of underground gas lines on the property to help you avoid dangerous dig-ins

Alternative Payment Options:

If you do not wish to be billed normally (i.e. monthly for the amount of gas you used in the previous month) you have other options:

Budget Payment Plan – establishes a budget amount that you pay monthly, so that you pay the same amount on every bill instead of dealing with the fluctuation of bills between fall and winter.  You will get billed the same amount all year (higher than usual in the fall and lower than usual in the winter), enabling you to spread the cost of winter heating evenly over the year.

Zipcheck/Checkfree – an automatic payment plan that lets you arrange for the bank where you have your checking account to pay your gas bill automatically.

Customers With Special Needs:

Third Party Notification – So that you do not overlook past due bills and disconnect notices, you may authorize use to send a copy of such notices to a third party of your choice.

Medical Certification Notice – Will delay termination of service for up to 90 days when you have a licensed physician complete a medical certification form stating that termination would be hazardous to your health or safety or that of a permanent resident of your home.

Cold Weather Protection – Will not discontinue your service for non-payment on a day when the temperature is below 32 degrees or during the two-week period of the Christmas-New Year’s season.

Fuel Fund Grants – Offer fuel fund grants to assist payment-troubled customers who have exhausted other sources of financial help. These funds are contributed by customers, employees and shareholders.
